The Yard building at the east side of the Burnside Bridge has reached its full height of 21 stories, and local officials and businesspeople held a rooftop “topping out” ceremony Thursday morning to take in the views.
“This area is unlike anything that people who have been away for 10 or 15 years, they can’t imagine what has happened,” said Portland Congressman Earl Blumenauer, reflecting on decades of planning for the Central Eastside.
The project, one of several buildings rising at the Burnside Bridgehead, is being co-developed by Hood River-based Key Development Co. and Portland-based Guardian Real Estate Services. About 30 people attended the rooftop ceremony, clad in hard hats and safety glasses.
Yard’s owners will receive 10 years of property tax breaks from the city in exchange for making 57 of the building’s 284 apartments affordable to those making up to 60 percent of the area’s median family income. It is scheduled to open in July and will also include the latest location of the popular restaurant Tilt. Other amenities include a spa, a coffee shop and a bike-through retail space.Read Full Article
